Why is a biomass heat network worth it from APS stage?

A biomass heat network locks the heat cost for 15-20 years, regardless of gas or fuel oil volatility. For a 30+ dwelling eco-neighborhood, it is the only solution combining energy density, regulatory compliance, and 2026 Klimabonus eligibility.

From APS, you stabilize the central boiler output, the network layout, and the substation location in each dwelling. No surprises at the permit stage.

What output and technology for the central boiler?

For a new low-energy neighborhood, start from 50-70 W/m². A 100-300 kW central boiler with automatic pellet feeding and a buffer tank is the standard. EN 303-5 Class 5 and EU EcoDesign 2015/1189 are mandatory.

Which pitfalls to avoid at APS stage?

Three critical design points: pellet quality, truck access to the silo, and network heat losses. Specify ENplus A1 pellets only: their net calorific value (>4,600 kWh/t) and moisture (<10%) are guaranteed.

Ash storage: plan for at least 1 m³ accessible from outside. The central plant should also be designed to accept waste heat from a neighboring building later.
