Rule of thumb: 30 W/m² for a passive/RT 2020 home, 60 W/m² for a new RT 2012/BBC build, 90 W/m² for an insulated 1990–2010 home, 120 W/m² for 1970–1990 standard, 150–180 W/m² for poorly insulated old homes, 220 W/m² for uninsulated. A 200 m² older house needs ~36 kW; the same surface as a passive home, ~6 kW.

Yes. Tatano biomass boilers (energy class A++ to A, EN 303-5 Class 5 certification) are eligible for Klimabonus Wunnen in Luxembourg, regional energy grants in Wallonia and Brussels-Capital, MaPrimeRénov' + CEE in France, and cantonal grants in Switzerland. Our engineering office prepares the required manufacturer certificates.

For a standard residential replacement (15–100 kW boiler), allow 2–5 days on site: removal of old equipment, hydraulic connection, flue installation, commissioning and user training. A new install with boiler-room layout can extend to 1–2 weeks. Industrial 1–3 MW projects require 4–8 weeks.

One annual service is required to keep warranty and grant eligibility valid. Tatano organises the appointment: ash bin emptying, combustion chamber cleaning, heat exchanger, sensor and combustion check, pressure verification. Allow €250–450/year depending on model. Multi-year package available.

Yes, modern Tatano pellet boilers run at 35–45 dB(A) under normal operation (similar to a fridge). Auger feed and flue gas extractor fan are designed to minimise noise. Kalorino KS inserts are even quieter — manual feed or integrated hopper.

Class 5 models reach 92–95% useful efficiency on certified ENplus A1 pellets, 88–92% on ISO 17225-4 wood chips, 84–89% on logs depending on moisture (ideal < 20%). The 1:4 modulation matches power output to building needs, avoiding wasteful short cycles.

In use, pellets ≈ 50% cheaper than oil, wood chips ≈ 70% cheaper (based on local 2026 prices). For a home consuming 3,000 L of oil/year (~€3,600), switching to pellets costs ~€1,800/year, i.e. €1,800/year savings. Typical payback: 5–8 years depending on grants.
